Project Summary

Chef Eli Wollenzien and business partner Deacon Eells opened their second Coalition Restaurant at 3808 W. 50th St., the site of the now-closed 50th Street Café which resided in the eclectic Pearson’s building.

Wilkus Architects partnered with restaurant design consultant, Cynthia O’Connor, on this restaurant renovation and the restaurant got an interior and exterior overhaul. In addition to a dining room and restroom makeover, the design features include an updated stucco and lap siding exterior and a brand new bar.

From Coalition: Coalition Restaurant combines an inspired menu with a casually sophisticated setting in a historic downtown Excelsior main street building. Coalition is the creation of Chef Eli Wollenzien and reflects his passion for cooking with a diverse and inspired menu.

Wilkus Architects provided design services that helped Coalition achieve their goals. The design includes 2,150 square feet of interior dining and a large bar creating a dynamic atmosphere.

Coalition is about the combined efforts of chefs, cooks, servers, farmers, vineyards, and brewers and I see that partnership extending to our guests by providing the highest quality food and service in a warm and welcoming environment
— Eli Wollenzien, Executive Chef/Owner
